Bright Ideas

Want to know a secret?  Because we'd like to shed a little light (and we mean that literally) on any room that has yet to reach its potential.  We're talking about that space that is practically perfect, yet lacking that mysterious something, and you can't put your finger on it. This is where our secret comes in: consider your lighting situation.  It's often overlooked and can make a world of difference.  Introducing a light fixture can warm things up, add intimacy and character to a space that's lacking, and tie all design/visual aspects together to really create a finished look.  Check out the image above -- see what we mean?!

Put our bright idea to good use: visit us in Atlanta or Charleston (or give us a call!), mention this post and save 25% on your lighting purchase through the end of April.

Modern Romance

We stopped dead in our tracks when we came across this moody interior (above; thank you, Grayson: a Different Shade of Grey, for bringing it to our attention in the first place!). An unexpected color palette and mix of materials create a kind of understated grandeur -- it seems that each element in the room highlights another so that no part goes unnoticed. We love the minimalist approach to furnishing this extravagant space with soaring ceilings and old architectural detail. Stunning!

We've got a few ideas of our own for re-dressing this room, SOM-style (below) ...

Through the Looking-Glass

Alice:  If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Upon the release of Tim Burton’s new film, an homage to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland… and the splendor of imagination…

Kiki Smith’s intaglio prints (at top) were inspired by Lewis Carroll’s original drawings for his book, titled Alice’s Adventures Underground. Top left: Pool of Tears 2 (after Lewis Carroll), 2000. Top right: Come Away from Her (after Lewis Carroll), 2003. Directly above: SOM whimsy and some fanciful design elements we used in a mid-May wedding last year.
