Kay Douglass Interiors

Kay Douglass Interiors (KDI) began, simply, in 1996 with a friend’s plea for Kay to use her creativity and assist in re-working some small spaces in her home. Through word of mouth and a bit of trust, many referrals and projects later, Kay Douglass Interiors was off and running.

In 2007, Dixie Peeples officially joined the design team.  She began with Kay when she opened the Charleston branch of Kay’s retail showroom, South of Market.   Dixie now serves as a lead designer, project manager and has just taken on the challenge of opening the 3rd location of South of Market in NYC’s prestigious Tribeca area.

This duo’s design style has been described by many as clean lines mixed with texture and usually incorporates an element of surprise.  In Kay's own words, "We love clean lines, European-influenced upholstery pieces, mixed with unexpected uses of color. Scale reigns supreme when planning our spaces and always look out for something out of the ordinary!”

KDI projects have been featured in publications including:  House Beautiful, Veranda, Traditional Home, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and the Russian, French and Brazilian versions of Elle Decor. Recently completed and current projects include homes in Atlanta, Charlotte, Savannah, Houston, New York, Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach, FL.  Please see a proper sample of work by visiting the Publications section of our website.

SOM/345: Atlanta Store

Early in Kay’s career, she was invited by a client to travel to France and assist in procuring special pieces from the Paris flea market for the client’s new house project.  When Kay returned with more furnishings than she could house, she decided to find a space to sell her excess wares and thus, South of Market came into existence!

The Atlanta showroom is full of unique antiques sourced from abroad, re-purposed objects, two hand selected lines of upholstery and a large selection of light fixtures including iron chandeliers and sconces, industrial pendants and custom made basket and glass lights. In 2012, a mercantile area was added to showcase books, kitchenware, candles and other gifts that had always been exclusive to our satellite store in Charleston.

Though our space has increased three-fold over time, our SOM flagship store in Atlanta still occupies the same space next to ADAC on Peachtree Hills Avenue in Buckhead.

SOM/173: Charleston Store

In 2003, Kay opened a smaller showroom on the prestigious King Street in Charleston, South Carolina. It, too, is packed to the brim with antiques sourced from France and Belgium, re-purposed objects, upholstery and a large selection of light fixtures including iron chandeliers and sconces, industrial pendants and custom made basket and glass lights. Mixed in with the furnishings and decor is a curated "smattering" of small gifts and goodies, from candles, books, throws and baskets to kitchen items and serving pieces.

The Charleston store has garnered the public's attention over the years through mention in various publications and is a favorite of visitors and locals alike!

Our new concept store in TriBeCa features antique French finds, one-of-a-kinds, art and coveted mid-century modern pieces in addition to upholstery exclusively by Verellen.

We are also thrilled to have a hand selected offering of clothing pieces sourced in Paris by our favorite French atelier, Lutz Huelle.  In addition, check out our personally curated “Archive Collection” of vintage garments purchased abroad.
